Surfing Near Playa del Coco
There's no surf whatsoever in Playa del Coco. But this is a popular jumping-off point for daily boat trips to Witch's Rock or Roca Bruja, and Ollie's Point up in Santa Rosa National Park. Most of the above-mentioned sport fishing and dive operations also offer trips to ferry surfers up to these two isolated surf breaks. A boat that carries six surfers for a full day, including lunch and beer, should run around $300.
In late 2003 the Costa Rican government began regulating access to both Witch's Rock and Ollie's Point, which are technically within Santa Rosa National Park. Permits were sometimes required, and boats were sometimes turned away. If you decide to go, be sure your boat captain is licensed and has cleared access to the park. You may also have to pay the park's $6 entrance fee. Folks in Coco can ask for information around town, at any of the dive shops listed, or contact Agua Rica Yacht Charters (tel. 877/589-0539 in the U.S. and Canada or 670-0473 in Costa Rica)
