Nightlife around Playa del Coco

Playa del Coco is one of Costa Rica's liveliest beach towns after dark. On the road into town, you'll find Banana Surf Bar, a comfortable second-floor affair with good bocas (appetizers) and some outdoor tables on the veranda overlooking Coco's main street. Lately they've been getting folks dancing to a modern mix of hip-hop, trance, and other dance rhythms.

Closer to the beach is the Lizard Lounge, which has a popular pool table and a laid-back tropical vibe. Alternatively, you can head across the park to the El Bohio Bar & Yacht Club, which is popular with expatriates and often shows sporting events on its TV. Cocomar is the main disco in town. It's located just off the little park right on the beach. (If these directions don't get you there, just follow the loud music.)

Finally, if you want to test your luck, head to the casino at either the Coco Verde Resort or the Hotel La Flor de Itabo
