Hurricane - Criminality in the North
Hurricane Felix hit the northern Nicaragua coast and the port city of Bilwi 4 September, being downgraded to a tropical storm as it moved inland. Localized damage, including flooding and power outages, has been reported. Travelers may face delays and disruptions.
Incidents of banditry occur in the remote North Atlantic Autonomous Region (RAAN), particularly around Bonanza, Siuna and along the Honduran border. Travelers should exercise high levels of caution when visiting these remote areas.
