Hotels Monteverde National Park Costa Rica: Arco Iris Lodge

This is by far the nicest hotel right in Santa Elena and is a great value. In fact, it's one of the nicest hotels in the area, regardless of price. The rooms are spread out in eight separate buildings (so, in effect, most are individual cabins). All have wood or tile floors and plenty of wood accents. My favorite is the "honeymoon cabin," which has its own private balcony with a forest view and good bird-watching. Budget travelers can inquire about the two rooms equipped with bunk beds (for $25 single, $32 double). The management here is helpful, speaks five languages, and can arrange a wide variety of tours. Although they no longer serve lunch and dinner, there's a breakfast buffet for $6.50; refreshments are available throughout the day and evening.
