Costa Rica's village of Montezuma has had a tough time coming to terms with its nightlife. For years, local Costa Rica businesses had banded together to force most of the loud, late-night activity out of Montezuma center. This has eased somewhat, and there's currently quite an active nightlife in Montezuma proper.

The local action seems to base itself either at Chico's Bar or at the bar at the Hotel Montezuma. Both are located on the main strip in town facing the water.

For real raging nightlife, some folks head to the large disco at the Barceló Playa Tambor Beach Resort, located on the main road between Paquera and Cóbano, about 20km (12 miles) south of Paquera and about 16km (10 miles) north of Montezuma.

Playa Tambor Beach Resort has even been known to offer free round-trip taxi service to lure partiers. Alternatively there's often something happening, either a live music or DJ, at Playa Las Manchas, located about a mile south of town on the road to Cabo Blanco. If your evening tastes are mellower, El Sano Banano Village Cafe doubles as the local movie house.
