Costa Rica Weather: Heavy Rain in The Northern Zone
Costa Rica's Guanacaste area finally got relief from weeks of heavy rain that caused flooding and mudslides. By Monday, the waters had begun to recede, allowing residents to begin cleaning up and getting back to their regular routine.
However, the Northern zone of Costa Rica has now been hit hard. Rain, raging rivers and floods have been reported in areas such as San Carlos.
The water was literally to the roof in areas like barrio San Roque in the town of Quesada, San Carlos, destroying 10 homes and placing some 300 residents at risk.
Unfortunately, many local homes in this Costa Rica area have been built at the edge of rivers. Families risk losing everything, if heavy rains continue. Water levels in the rivers could rise and strong currents could have disastrous affects.
Two bridges in the Northern zone have already been reported as having serious damage, affecting travel within several communities.
The Red Cross and the National Emergency Commission (CNE) are working together to evacuate families at risk.
