Thinking of your next vacation in Costa Rica? Where to stay? What to do? Costa Rica is much smaller than the United States, but there are plenty of places to stay and plenty of fun things to do. You can't get to all destinations in a one or two weeks, but one popular places to visit is Drake Bay, on Costa Rica's north end of the Nicoya Penninsula in the Osa Peninsula.
Drake Bay is one of the most historical areas in Costa Rica. In the 1500s, Sir Drake traveled around the globe as the first ever sailor to do so. It is said that he stopped in Costa Rica in the small town known as Drake Bay.
You can get to Drake Bay by catching a boat from Dominical on the Pacific coast. Located a mile or two from Hacienda Baru, where you can visit to see a large private nature reserve. This Costa Rica beach is very popular with surfers.
If you enjoy hiking, visit Corcovado National Park, where you can hike four to seven hours to Drake Bay. In this Costa Rica National Park, you're guaranteed to see Costa Rica wildlife, and tons of beautiful Costa Rican birds.
Not far from Drake Bay is a water-lover's paradise. 12 miles west of Drake Bay, is Isle del Cano, where the water is warm like bath water. Snorkel and dive: come face to face with many sea creatures that live in the reserve. Sport fishing is excellent as well, and there's a crocodile park near by.
Remember, that all areas may not be accessible during the rainy season. Check with your travel guide to find out more about this and about other attractions in the Drake Bay. Drake Bay is a super location for surfers and those who enjoy Costa Rica's great outdoors.
