Costa Rica Transportation: Taxis in Costa Rica

Taking a taxi in Costa Rica is much cheaper and more affordable than in the US.
Word of caution: make sure the taxi has a meter, and uses it. All Costa Rica taxis are red and usually have some kind of sign on the roof. However, some known as Pirate Taxis are just guys with a red car, are not registered to operate as a taxi, nor have a meter. They will often charge you more than the norm (especially tourists). Stick to the real deal.

If you decide to take one for a distance, always agree on a price BEFOREHAND. When outside the central valley, and cities, taxis are harder to come by and slightly higher.
