The Guanacaste Beaches, including Tamarindo, Flamingo, Playa Hermosa, are collectively among Costa Rica's most beautiful beaches. Called the Gold Coast of Costa Rica, the Guanacaste area offers spectacular sunsets. Visitors can expect dry weather most of the year. Located on the inner base of the Nicoya peninsula, Montezuma is a gathering place for Costa Rica's most idiosyncratic locals and travelers. Dreadlocked Rastafarians, tattooed bohemians, sun-kissed surfers are the norm at this picturesque little beach town, which boasts tide pools, forested waterfalls, and wildlife such as the Capuchin monkeys (white face) and crocodiles. The Southern Nicoya Peninsula is accessible, but will require a long drive and ferry ride to get there.
South Pacific Costa Rica Hotels

In Manzanillo, on the southern tip of the Caribbean coast, is Gandoca-Manzanillo Refuge, home to amazing coastal rainforests and stunning underwater marine life and coral reefs.
