Costa Rica: Caribbean Coast Weather

Costa Rica is a tropical country and experiences only two seasons: wet and dry. The dry season is generally between late December and April, and the wet season (referred to as the green season) lasts the rest of the year. The Caribbean coast tends to vary. September is the driest month, followed by October, and the rest of the year is wet. Temperatures vary little between seasons; the main influence on temperature is altitude.

Costa Rica's Beautiful Caribbean Coast
San José at 1150m (3772ft) has a climate that the locals refer to as 'Eternal Spring': lows average 15°C (60°F); highs average 26°C (79°F). The coasts are much hotter, with the Caribbean averaging 21°C (70°F) at night and over 30°C (86°F) during the day; the Pacific is a few degrees warmer still. The humidity at low altitudes can be oppressive.

There's no bad time to visit the Caribbean Coast. During the rainy season, you  still get beautiful, sunny mornings, but be ready for some afternoon showers. You'll find a relaxed, laid back atmosphere. Cahuita National Park is one of, if not the nicest of all the National Parks in Costa Rica. The flat terrain makes for a easy hike for all ages. The trails follow the beach, and there are a countless number of beautiful tall palm, shade trees and wild flowers along the way. You can spot howler monkeys, sloths, white-face monkeys and all kinds of crabs and interesting insects

Costa Rica's Playa Negra (Black Beach)
The warm waters are excellent for bathing and snorkeling. Next to Cahuita is Paya Negra (black Beach) named because of the dark black sand beach distinct to the area. The waves make for great surfing, body surfing or just plain old frolicking in the waves. A little further South of Cahuita is Puerto Viejo, where you'll find great surfing waves at Playa Brava. If your more into adventure, try one of the many tours offered in the area. There are Canopy Tours, know as zip line,
Fishing, Snorkeling, Jungle Tours, Tortuguero Trip, Bird Watching, Cahuita National Park, Indian Reserve Excursions and more.
