Costa Rica Birds

These photos of the palm tanager and the white lined tanager were taken on the shores of Gatun Lake in Colon province of Panama.

The palm tanager's traditional range is from Honduras to Paraguay, Bolivia and Southern Brazil. The white lined tanager has been found from Costa Rica to Southern Brazil and Northern Argentina.

Locally, however, these birds are ever less frequently seen. This is mainly due to habitat destruction, such as the metro area's urban sprawl and now the construction of the toll road between Panama and Colon. With the latter project, these ancient inhabitants of the route were never taken into account.
