Charity Event Raises Funds for Earthquake Victims

Charity Event Raises Funds for Quake Victims

QATAR is helping in the rehabilitation of victims affected by the devastating earthquake in Peru. The earthquake hit the southern part of Peru in August.

Cecilia Castro, director of public relations, said “The event, was sponsored by Sheikh Mohamed bin Fahad bin Mohamed al-Thani, received tremendous support from the Qatari government.
 
“We have been able to raise about QR 30,000 from the sale of tickets and other items in association with some charitable organizations. The money will be donated to the earthquake areas through charitable organizations in Peru.”

Representatives of 11 Latin American countries including Costa Rica, Argentina, Columbia, Cuba, Chile, El Salvador, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela and San Domingo participated in the cultural programs.

Officials of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Heritage and Qatar Charity were also present.

The highlights of the event included dances and songs by expatriate artistes belonging to Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Argentina and Venezuela. A fashion show of traditional dresses and an exhibition- cum- sale of Latino-American arts and crafts and Latin-American dishes were served.
