Central America Receives 'Best Stand Design' Award in London at World Travel Market 2007
Central America stands out among over 200 nations at WTM 2007. Joint collaboration preserving each country's identity key to receiving the award.
Central America received the "Best Stand Design" award from the renowned World Travel Market 2007 fair, standing out among over 200 nations and regions that took part in the 27th edition, held in London, England.
The joint collaboration between the Central American nations and TACA Airlines under the "Central America, so small ... yet so big" joint brand was the key factor for the panel's final decision, which praised the joint promotion approach while maintaining each nation's identity, the use of a common theme, and a local design, as well as the exhibition of handicrafts from each country.
The stand showed the tourist attractions Central America offers as a unique and diverse multi-destination. The stand's design blended the countries' natural and cultural richness with modern trends in a functional and original way. Visitors could feel the warmth of the people, the lush natural settings, the cultural mix, and the historical treasures, with the possibility of enjoying local cuisine and national drinks, admiring typical costumes of the region, and discovering intense colors used by weavers for
their products.
World Travel Market (WTM) is one of the largest fairs at the international level due to the opportunities for business deals and the establishment of business contacts, as it gathers a large part of the world's professional tourism industry and presents the latest trends in the field. 47,264 tourism professionals attended the WTM fair in 2006.
A panel of tourism experts was held as part of this 27th edition, with participation from Coralia Dreyfus from SICA (the Central American Integration System); Catalina Gordon from INTUR (the Nicaraguan Tourism Institute); Tatiana Siercke, representing Honduras; Michelle Gallardo,
Salvadoran Vice- Minister of Tourism; Ana Smith, representing Guatemala; Carl Fredrik- Nordstrom, Panamanian Vice-Minister of Tourism; and Harry James, representing Costa Rica.
