Best Time to Surf Costa Rica
When choosing which time of year to surf Costa Rica, there are 2 options to consider: regional weather and crowds.
Costa Rica Seasons
Costa Rica have 2 basic seasons. The Costa Rica summer is December to April. Sunny and hot weather with little chance of rain. It's therefore Costa Rica busiest season and tourism is at a high. Lodging and car rental are priced accordingly and run higher than the rest of the year. Holidays such as Christmas, New Years and especially Easter has even higher rates. The best surfing during this time is anywhere along the northern Nicoya Peninsula or on the Caribbean Coast.
The "Green" (Rainy) Season
The Green season technically starts in May and lasts until the end of November. However, during the months of May, June, July & August, temperatures are still hot and the heavy rains have yet to fall. Common weather at this time is sunny skies with late afternoon showers. The heavy rains are in September till the end of November. The biggest advantage of traveling to Costa Rica at this time are lower prices. Rates drop from 10% - 30% and you'll definitely see less crowds.
