Beach Home Vacation Rentals - Costa Rica’s exclusive selection of Vacation Rental Properties, are great for families, couples and groups of friends looking for privacy and the comforts of home. Moderate Apartotel Girasol (tel. 800/923-2779 in the U.S. and Canada or 2643-1591; with 16 fully equipped one-bedroom apartments, its a good option in this category, especially for longer stays, while Hotel Poseidon (tel. 2643-1642) a popular boutique hotel in the heart of all the downtown action.
Inexpensive--There are quite a few budget hotels around town. Most cater to itinerant surfers, backpackers, and Ticos. If you're looking to stay on the cheap, your best bet is to simply walk the strip and see who's got the best room at the best price.
There are also several campgrounds in or near Playa de Jaco. Madrigal (tel. 2643-3851), at the south end of town at the foot of some jungley cliffs, is my favorite. You can also try El Hicaco (tel. 2643-3004), which is close to the beach but also pretty close to the Disco La Central, so don't expect to get much sleep if you stay here. Campsites run between $2 and $5 per night.
Playa Hermosa, Costa Nera (tel. 2643-1942) is an attractive little Italian-run bed-and-breakfast that offers rooms for between $40 and $55 double. A couple of these rooms even front the ocean.
