Transportation Costa Rica: Costa Rica's Monterverde Cloud Forest By Bus

Monterverde From San Jose
Leaves at 6:30 am and 2:30 pm daily. Ask for the old Puntarenas bus stop, at Calle 14, avenida 11 y 9. The morning bus passes by Lagartos at about 9 am, arriving in Monteverde at 11 am. The afternoon bus passes by Lagartos at 5 pm arriving in Monteverde at 7 pm, later in wet season.
Duration: 4.5 hours
Price: $5

Monteverde From Puntarenas
Leaves at 1 pm (via Las Juntas) and 2 pm (direct). The 1 pm bus passes by La Irma, the 2 pm bus passes by Lagartos at 3 pm. Both arrive in Monteverde at 5:00 PM.

Monteverde From Guanacaste, Liberia, Northern Costa Rica
There are buses from Nicoya, Santa Cruz, Tamarindo beach, Flamingo, Playa del Coco, Montezuma, Samara, Hermosa, the Nicaragua Border, Liberia, etc. Take one of these buses to Lagartos and La Irma and hop on one of the Monteverde buses. See above, San Jose, Puntarenas, check link for bus schedule.

Monteverde from Southern Pacific beaches: Ballena National Park, Uvita, Dominical, Matapalo, Quepos, Manuel Antonio, Jaco, Herradura, go to Puntarenas.

Monteverde from La Fortuna (volcano Arenal): Leaves at 8 am for Tilaran, 4 hours, then see below (total time: 8 hours, in dry season)

Monteverde From Tilaran
The bus leaves Tilarán for Monteverde at 1 pm, arriving at approx. 3:30 pm, later in wet season. Eat light, it's a bumpy ride!
