San Jose Guide:
San Jose, the Capital of Costa Rica, is the hub of all transportation in Costa Rica. For that reason, it is usually the first place you will visit while in Costa Rica. It lies between three Costa Rica volcanoes. There is a large variety of Costa Rica hotels, parks, restaurants and attractions for visitors. The first thing noticed about San Jose is the local friendliness. The city is set up on a pretty logical grid system. When on foot and touring the capital, Costa Ricans, also known as Ticos, are always willing to lend a hand with directions. Always remember though, locals use landmarks not street names for directions, and if you just can't figure out where you are, find a local church. Every church in Costa Rica faces west. While in the Capital, you have access to the best public transportation in all of Central America.
Costa Rica Restaurant & Hotel: Grano de Oro
The small Costa Rica restaurant locatedin San Jose just off the central courtyard of the wonderful Grano de Oro hotel is both elegant and relaxed. The menu features a wide range of meat and fish dishes.
The lomito piemontes is two medallions of filet mignon stuffed with Gorgonzola cheese in a sherry sauce, while the lomito Diana comes with fresh pears and a thick brandy reduction. If you opt for fish, I recommend the macadamia-encrusted corvina, which is served with a light and tangy orange sauce. Be sure to save room for the "Grano de Oro pie," a decadent dessert with various layers of chocolate and coffee mousses and creams. When the weather's nice, you can grab a table in the courtyard. This is a particularly nice option for lunch.
Recently renovated, this Costa Rica restaurant has a great atmosphere that brings class to Costa Rica's downtown area.
