McKee Project Holds Successful Spay/Neuter Clinicin ini Costa Rica's Central Pacific

The McKee Project Jaco held the most successful spay/neuter clinic in it's 6 year history in the Jaco area, on Sunday Sept. 21st...81 companion animals were attended to by the very dedicated veterinary team headed by Dr. Blas Rivas, which included team members Dr. Olman Solano, Dr. Wendy Villalobos and Dr. Esteban Soto Molina.

They were assisted by several members of our McKee group. Other major contributors to this most successful event were the organizers from Tárcoles, Patri Holmer, Patricia Chacon Rojas and Marilyn Rodriguez Vargas along with Jennifer Paterson, who co-coordinated the transport of the town of El Sur's animals to the clinic. Even the local scouts were on hand with their leader Alexander Rodriguez Vargas and Sarita Rodriguez Araya - they were a tremendous help in keeping the many animals calm, and seeing that each was taken in the correct order.

There were many other volunteers, and a special thanks goes to the community of Tárcoles for allowing us the use of their town hall to set up our makeshift clinic and to Lynn and Larry Green from Ontario, who donated the housing for the Veterinarians and their staff and helped to make this day a most pleasant as well as productive one.

Thanks also to a generous donation given by Servicios Transmundiales to McKee founder Christine Crawford to support this clinic - no animal was turned away. Those families who could not afford the 7000 colon fee were asked to donate what they could, and others who arrived with animals in tow but could not afford to contribute were attended to with the same care as those who could.

The McKee project is a nationwide effort to spay/neuter companion animals, find homes for street dogs and cats, as well as offering educational programs. It is a non-profit organization which depends solely on donations. Find out more

EL DOMINGO 21 DE SETIEMBRE, EN TÁRCOLES, EL GRUPO DEL PROGRAMA MCKEE JACO, realizó la campaña más exitosa en nuestra historia de 6 años. Se atendió a 81 animales de compañía, "callejeros" o de familias de escasos recursos. La jornada fue organizada por nuestros voluntarios de esta zona - Patri Holmer, Patricia Chacón Rojas y Marilyn Rodriguez Vargas, junto con Jennifer Paterson - la coordinadora del transporte de unos 10 animales del pueblo El Sur a la campaña. También los exploradores locales con sus lideres Alexander Rodriguez Vargas y Sarita Rodriguez Araya fueron de gran ayuda. Gracias por trabajar tan duro!

Un agradecimiento muy especial al Equipo Veterinario: Dr. Blas Rivas, Dr. Olman Solano, Dra. Wendy Villalobos y Dr. Esteban Soto Molina y sus asistentes por el excelente trabajo. Agradecemos también a todos los voluntarios por ayudar a cuidar los pacientes luego de la operación y por transportarlos a sus casas. Un agradecimiento especial a la comunidad de Tárcoles por prestarnos el salón comunal y a Lynn y Larry Green de Ontario (Canadá) por proveer una casa para los veterinarios.

También agradecemos la generosa donación recibida especialmente para esta campaña por parte de Servicios Transmundiales que nos fue entregada por Christine Crawford, la fundadora del Projecto McKee Costa Rica. Gracias a estos esfuerzos conjuntos ningún animal fue rechazado, los que no pudieron pagar el precio total de 7000 colones, pagaron lo que les fue posible, para los que no pudieron pagar nada, la operación fue gratuita.

McKee Jacó es un grupo comunitario que trabaja con el objetivo de controlar la población de perros y gatos en el cantón, ayudar a la gente de escasos recursos para castrar a sus mascotas y asistir a los animales de compañía cuyos dueños no cuentan con suficientes recursos financieros para cubrir los gastos médicos que requieren sus mascotas. La organización subsiste gracias al apoyo de personas individuales, empresas y organizaciones que nos aportan sus donativos.
