Owner Jim Damalas has done a great job of creating a lively, upscale midsize resort that blends in with and respects the rainforests and natural wonders of Manuel Antonio. Si Como No offers an array of facilities and modern amenities, with an ecologically conscious attitude. This is a place equally suited to families traveling with children and to couples looking for a romantic getaway in Costa Rica. Located minutes from Manuel Antonio National Park, where you can do bird watching & Costa Rica Adventure Tours.

All the wood used is farm-grown, and although all the rooms have energy-efficient air-conditioning units, guests are urged to use them only when necessary. The standard rooms (housed in the hotel's main building or in the ground floor of a villa) are quite acceptable, but it's worth the modest splurge for a superior or deluxe room or a suite. Most of these are on the top floors of the two- to three-story villas, with spectacular treetop views out over the forest and onto the Pacific. These rooms all have a bedroom with an adjoining living-room area, a private balcony, and either a kitchenette or a wet bar.

There are a series of deluxe suites with lots of space and large garden bathrooms, some of which have private Jacuzzis. A separate building set on a high patch of land has a more Art Deco style to it. They also have a wonderful little butterfly garden and frog farm just across the street.

Facilities: 2 restaurants; 2 bars; 2 midsize pools, including 1 w/small water slide; modest spa; 2 Jacuzzis; concierge; tour desk; free beach shuttle; in-room massage; babysitting; laundry service
