Garabito Municipality Launches Beginning of Recycle Program

The canton of Garabito, with its capital in Jacó, on the Pacific coast, has launched a recycling program.

Garabito Solid Waste Director Roberto Ramírez said the program is necessary because the canton's only landfill in Pueblo Nuevo is almost full. 

Its purpose is of creating a habit of recycling by collecting bottles and packages of articles of daily consumption. These items should be separated from the ordinary waster and from those who don't have any value to be recovered in order to make the task cleaner. The initiative is directed to the community in general, to the commerce as well as the domestic, educational and public sector and requires the collaboration of everyone.

The recycling materials are aluminum cans, plastic bottles, glass bottles in any color, paper, cardboard and books (please tie up the newspapers in packs). All recycling materials must be placed in a container or in a plastic bag. Transparent ones are preferable.

You can deliver them to the Relleno Sanitario in Pueblo Nuevo next to El Puente Las Monas or you can drop them in the recycling containers in front of the municipality. This waste will be classified and stored according to their physical composition in order to be compacted and prepared for its release into the market.
