Help stop pollution in Costa Rica's Central Pacific Zone!

John and Brenda Fullerton from Esterillos Oeste are helping to start the "Pick it Up" campaign for all of Costa Rica's surrounding areas so that people start thinking about the environment.

During their walks on the beach, they have started taking a bag and picking up plastic. Mrs. Fullerton's research shows that plastic never biodegrades. It only breaks down into small little balls of plastic which the marine life ingests, and which never leaves our oceans. It has been found that the main contributors to beach trash in Costa Rica are: Pull tabs; straws, cigarettes, cigarette lighters and cigarette filters, Food wrappers and containers, Cups, plates, forks, knives, spoons, Bags, Beverage bottles (plastic), Beverage cans and Toys.

In Jaco Beach, Costa Rica's Central Pacific Chamber of Commerce holds beach cleanups inviting children from various schools in the area to participate and learn about the importance of the oceans and trash management. If you are interested in helping with these efforts, please contact The Central Pacific Chamber of Commerce at christinatruitt@gmail.com.
