Fishing Costa Rica Town of Quepos

Fishing Costa Rica
Quepos is world known as one of Costa Rica's best places for big game sportfishing. This small Costa Rica town is 160 km from the capital San Jose, in the province of Puntarenas. Located on Costa Rica’s central Pacific coast, Quepos is a great place to enjoy a relaxing vacation. A three-hour drive from San Jose, through the towns such as Atenas, Orotina, Tarcoles, Jaco and Parrita. Flights to Quepos are available on a domestic flight from the Juan Santa Maria International Airport and take only 1 hour.

Although well known throughout the country as a key fishing town, Quepos also offers tourists a variety of Costa Rica adventure tours and activities. You'll find a number of reasonably priced hotels, cabinas, hostels as well as luxury resorts and vacation rentals. Hotel Flor Blanca has reasonable prices and clean modest rooms. There are many great restaurants, lounges and bars.

Most Manuel Antonio hotels have restaurants and live entertainment on weekends and during the winter months. Visit the famous Mono Azul, Blue Monkey restaurant for delicious Costa Rican food including pizza and seafood with a great atmosphere. La Colina's Bruno's Grill has a great sunset view and Chef Mike creates special gourmet dishes that will have you coming back for more. La Hacienda Restaurante is another favorite. The town center is a charming square filled with many eateries, hotels, art galleries and shops, all situated on the beach front. If you happen to visit here during local festivals, the streets are filled with people dancing, parades and concerts.

Although the weather varies throughout the year, those wanting the maximize on sunny and dry temperatures will want to visit between January and April, Costa Rica's dry searson. Peak fishing season runs from December to August. Months of March and April can get pretty hot, while September brings a lot of rain.

Quepos has some of the best game fishing in the world with Marlin, Sailfish, Snapper, Amberjack, Wahoo, Dorado, Yellow Fin and Big Eye Tuna, and Roosterfish found in abundance. Angling enthusiasts can fish inshore or offshore, and can even fly fish. If fishing is not your thing, you can enjoy zipping through the jungle on a canopy tour, horseback riding, kayaking, rafting and surfing.

Quepos is the closest town next to the world famous Manuel Antonio National Park. One of the most visited areas of Costa Rica, Quepos welcomes many international leading scientists and naturalists, who visit the area for its variety of flora and fauna.

Taxis and buses are abundant, and you can drive to the beach in 7 minutes. Buses run on a regular schedule, between Quepos and Manuel Antonio beach, close to the main entrance of Manuel Antonio National Park.
