Jaco Restaurant Costa Rica

Chef Bruno recently opened Jaco's newest restaurant, Pili Pili. This Jaco Beach restaurant is located upstairs, across from Mas x Menos on Jaco main street. The candle lit staircase caught our curiosity, and has a great atmosphere.

The Bistro features the Fusion-style creations of Chef Bruno from the Normandy region of France. Bruno spent 25 years in Africa, 10 years in Costa Rica and has a background in hotel management.

The name for the restaurant, Pili Pili comes from the African Swahili word for chili peppers which are used in special spicy sauces that Chef Bruno makes available to those who wish to try them. Of course we had to give it a try! Steve describes it as a slow burning heat that builds to a crescendo. Heat index 7.5 out of 10; flavor index and 9 out of 10.

We started the evening with a crunchy shrimp appetizer. I enjoyed the Beef Bourguignon, Steve the pork tenderloin. Delicious! It tasted just like my mom's recipe! (Mom was French of course!) Vegetables were crunchy and presentation was delightful.

The menu varies daily and is hand written on a chalkboard and presented as you arrive.

Prices are reasonable, with main dishes from $8.50 to $15. Open daily at 6pm. For information, phone is 2643-5535.
