This is a modern and luxurious large-scale business-class Costa Rica hotel. Three five-story wings radiate off a central hub. The large, open lobby has a beautiful flagstone-and-mosaic floor. The rooms are all well appointed, with either one king-size or two double beds, a working desk, a sitting chair and ottoman, and a large armoire housing a 25-inch television. For a little extra, you can stay on the Club InterContinental floor and enjoy personalized concierge and butler services, a separate check-in area, an on-floor buffet breakfast, and an assortment of refreshments, sweets, hors d'oeuvres, and drinks throughout the day. This floor is where most of the junior and master suites are located.

The hotel is just across from a large, modern shopping-mall complex, which is nice if you want access to shopping, restaurants, and a six-plex movie theater. Overall, the InterContinental offers many of the same features and amenities as the Marriott, although the latter gets my nod in terms of service, restaurants, and ambience.

Facillities:3 restaurants; 2 bars; lounge; large free-form pool; tennis court; modest health club and spa; Jacuzzi; concierge; tour desk; car-rental desk; well-appointed business center; small shopping arcade; salon; 24-hr. room service; in-room massage; laundry service; nonsmoking rooms.

San Jose Guide:

San Jose, the Capital of Costa Rica, is the hub of all transportation in Costa Rica. For that reason, it is usually the first place you will visit while in Costa Rica. It lies between three Costa Rica volcanoes. There is a large variety of Costa Rica hotels, parks, restaurants and attractions for visitors. The first thing noticed about San Jose is the local friendliness. The city is set up on a pretty logical grid system. When on foot and touring the capital, Costa Ricans, also known as Ticos, are always willing to lend a hand with directions. Always remember though, locals use landmarks not street names for directions, and if you just can't figure out where you are, find a local church. Every church in Costa Rica faces west. While in the Capital, you have access to the best public transportation in all of Central America
