Costa Rica Business: Thousands of GSM Cellular Lines Sales Begin in Costa Rica
The Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) yesterday began selling off 60.000 GSM cellular telephone lines. However, only those with reservations between 9035780 and 9103471 can connect.
ICE says it expects some 12.000 new connections daily across areas of Costa Rica, as all agencies are working at full capacity to meet the demand.
The 60.000 is part of the 300.000 GSM cellular lines recently acquired by ICE, bringing the total number of cellular lines in Costa Rica to 1,840,000.
That figure does not include the expected 900.000 new lines of the third generation, 3G, that ICE is to make available by the end of this year or early next year.
To connect to the cellular network, in addition to having a reservation, you need to provide an original receipt for the purchase of the cellular telephone, a copy a utility bill, a passport (national or residency), pay the ¢12.500 colones deposit and not have any outstanding debt with ICE.
But, hurry, there is a time limit on the reservations - May 8 - after which time the remaining unsold lines will be available to the general public on a first come first served basis.
