Ceviche del Rey Peruvian Cuisine at it’s best!

On the main road in San Pedro towards Cartago we found another gem. Since we we’re already big fans of Machu Pichu, a great Peruvian Restaurant in San Jose, Costa Rica, we thought we’d give it a try. This quaint little restaurant had a good atmosphere and menu to match.

We started off with a Causa Limena de Camarones, Special Mashed potatoes with shrimp. This delicate and tasty dish made with a Peruvian sauce was delicious! ($3.25) Next appetizer was Papa Rella de Pollo. Another potato tasty dish made of mashed potatoes stuffed with finely chopped chicken, and fried till golden. ($2)

Chicha Morada
The friendly owner Julio, suggested we try the Peruvian National Beverage Chicha morada. This beverage takes on the color of one of its main ingredients: purple maize! Chicha morada is prepared from a base of boiled purple corn to which are added chunks of pineapple, cinnamon, sugar and some lemon, served over ice. It's a soft drink very popular in Peru. Steve was intrigued with the Maiz Morado (purple corn) used to make this vitamin-rich, natural, and delicious house specialty of Ceviche del Rey Peruvian Restaurant.

We had to try they're house specialty Ceviche de Corvina, Marinated seabass with onions. This is a very popular fish dish served through out Costa Rica Restaurants and one of our favorites. ($5) Filette de Corvina con Salsa de Hongos was next. Sea bass  served in a creamy mushroom sauce. Delicious!! ($6.75) We had more food than we could finish, so I opted for a doggy bag and went for desert. Another Peruvian specialty Crema Volteada. This creamy custard desert resembles what we call Flan.

We we're happy, totally stuffed and satisfied. The total bill including tax and tip was $26. We'll definitely be back!
