Snorkeling in Costa Rica's Caribbean Paradise: Cahuita

Enjoy the wonders of exploring the live coral reef in Cahuita National Park. During your stay in Costa Rica's South Caribbean Coast, water activities and sports are a Must! Whether you like to Snorkel, enjoy Diving, Fishing or just cooling off in the warm Caribbean Ocean, take advantage the area's natural beauty.

The most attractive feature for divers is the underwater garden of marine life, including several types of coral, such as the brain and elkhorn coral. Also living in this medium are large numbers of very colorful tropical fish and invertebrates, like urchins, sea fans, angelfish, blue parrotfish, barracudas and stingrays, amongst others.

Snorkeling is best from March through May and from September through November –  the prices are subject to change depending on the season and size of group. Check the latest Weather Conditions.

Many Cahuita Snorkeling  Tours have 3 snorkeling tours daily
Prices are aprox. Cost:  Adults $30  Children $20

Most Costa Rica Snorkeling tours starts off with a boat ride to the snorkel destination where you will enjoy hours of snorkeling the beautiful coral reef. For your safety, they have a snorkeling trail that consists of a 400 meter line with white buoys. There is a drop off where you do some free diving. With some luck, you may even a turtle!

A tasty snack of fresh fruit and beverages is often provided. Once re-energized, you have the choice to return by boat, or hike 3.5 km (1 hr 45 min) through Cahuita National Park back to Cahuita Center. This offers a wonderful opportunity to spot some of the wildlife such as iguanas, monkeys, agoutis, sloths as well as parrots, toucans and a wide variety of birds.

Some Cahuita Tour Operators also offer a Shark Petting Snorkeling Tour (yes, I said shark!)

From Cahuita national park area, take a day trip to lively town of Puerto Viejo and Surf Costa Rica's famous Salsa Bravas! Visit the neighboring Caribbean Beaches such as Uva, Chiquita or Manzanillo Beach.
