Animal Rights Activist Wanted by FBI May be in Costa Rica

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica - The FBI is offering up to $250,000 for information leading to the arrest of Daniel Andreas San Diego.

San Diego is wanted in connection with the 2003 bombings in Northern California of the corporate offices of Chiron Corp., an Emeryville biotechnology firm, and at Shaklee, a Pleasanton cosmetic company. The explosions caused minor damages and no injuries.

The suspect is 30 years old and had been living in Berkeley, California. He is now assumed to be living in Costa Rica and working with Americans or people who speak English, the FBI said in a statement released to Costa Rican media by the U.S. Embassy.

"He has links with animal rights groups in the U.S., and he could be linked with similar organizations in Costa Rica," the FBI said.

The FBI says the alleged terrorist planted the bombs because he believed the firms had ties with labs and research companies that conducted drug and chemical experiments on animals.

If you have any information concerning this case, phone Contact the FBI 1-866-483-5137, the U.S. Embassy in San Jose, Costa Rica at 519-2000 or FBI in Panama, 507-207-7000.
