We are going to Tamarindo in Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula in August with another couple - I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on restaurants and things to do around there. Also any fishing charter suggestions would be appreciated

Thank you
ChrisT

Hi ChrisT:
There is plenty to see and do in Tamarindo. There are plenty of sportfishing charters in the area. Capullo is a local fishing charter and has gotten great reviews. As for restaurants, I would recommend the following: Nogui's (good breakfast/lunch on the beach at the end of the traffic circle), La Baula (good pizza), Dragonfly, Fish & Meat, Eat at Joes (inside Witch's Rock surf camp, Taboo (in Langosta), Palapa, Laguna del Cocodrilo (fine dining) to name a few. All are good.
Witch's rock has good nightly entertainment (local musicians) as do many of the other restaurants. Have a great time.

Hello ChisT:

Since this is your first time in Tamarindo, let me give you some information about this popular spot. The beach has become the most popular in the North Pacific, actually known as "The Costa Rican Hawaii" you will find lots of hotels, villas, apartments, restaurants and activities such us surfing, diving, scuba diving, water skiing and more. The beach is long enough for every body to enjoy different water sports. Since all kind of visitors are coming to this Costa Rica area, you will find prices according to your budget.

Keep in mind that the place is not exempt from vandalism; therefore don’t leave personal belongings in the car or out of your sight. Have a nice time here.

one thing you'll find out quick in costa rica, is there's lots of restaurants and tour agencies lined up on the main streets of popular destinations.

you can find something for every budget. Costa Rica's food and main dishes includes casadas, which are the best deal for the money. it's the national dish.. made up usually of rice, beans, salad, potatoes, plantain and your choice of meat, chicken or fish.

tour companies offering much of the same tours will try to lure you. take a stroll and get some prices. they can vary quite a bit. to get your business they'll give you a discount to beat the other's rate.

if your staying at a resort, you can book anything through the hotel. on a budget? check out the tours in town.. same tours just cheaper

Thank you very much for the very helpful information, we'll keep in mind these suggestions and we hope to have a great time in Tamarindo. We plan to arrive in Liberia and rent a car to reach our destination. Any comments about the road conditions or routes?

Yes, unfortunately the roads from Guanacaste, just as many others around Costa Rica, are not in good condition. In your case if you are driving from Liberia, the road is in good condition from the airport to Belen, which takes lees than one hour. From Belen to Huacas the condition of the road is so bad that you spend a lot of time and you can damage your car pretty bad. I would recommend to drive all the way down from Liberia to Santa Cruz and take the inner roads following the signs to Tamarindo, even though this is a gravel road it’s kept in better condition and you get faster to Tamarindo than going the other way.
